In September 2011, in Querceta Italy, Copeland began carving a series of sculptures in Durato Travertine. The stone comes from the Rapolano Quarries of Travertini Paradiso, near Siena, Italy.  In the Spring and Summer of 2012, the Durato Travertine family was expanded.

Four distinct forms arrive from one block. Initial graphite layouts on each of the four smaller blocks help identify early cuts to be made.  Together, the ensemble forms one family.

"Penelope" and "Oliver," two young spirits emerge from within the travertine, plump and filled with life. Moving to see the world that is new to them, "P" + "O" twist and turn. They bend straight stone striations into fresh and interesting patterns of arcs and curves.
